“Targeted Twitter followers” may be a tongue twister, but it doesn’t have to be a chore!
Though you might not know what to do with a Twitter account at first, this popular micro-blogging service can be extremely powerful if it’s used the RIGHT way! When you have Twitter followers that actually care about what you have to say and to share, you’re going to create a relationship with fantastic benefits.
Instead of spending hours figuring out who should follow you and how they can be coaxed into following you, here are some quick tips. Unfortunately I couldn’t fit them into 140 characters, but I’m sure you’ll find them useful anyway!
- Use http://whofollowswhom.com: This site will help you find people who follow multiple celebrities in your market. Just type in the Twitter names of up to five people at a time to see whom they’re following. The magic here is that you know these people are VERY interested in your market, because they know and follow multiple highly-relevant leaders. These are people with a BIG interest in your industry!
- Follow those people: If your Twitter posts (tweets) are interesting, when you follow those people highly-interested in your market, there’s a good chance they’ll follow you back. After all, your content is interesting and relevant, right?
- Engage: Twitter is not a tool for collecting followers, but creating conversations. Engage with the people you follow. Become a part of their conversations. Start conversations and see what happens when you communicate instead of simply posting thoughts. Customers like to do business with people they know, like and trust. Twitter will help you with all 3 of these things.
- Be helpful: In conversations with your followers, be helpful, truly helpful. People remember this and will want to know more about what you do.
- Research too: You can also use your Twitterverse to help you with research your market need and trends. Search Twitter for words and phrases related to your market and see what conversations are going on. This is RAW, REAL and unedited feedback that can easily give you the edge on your competition! This is a strategy I recommend to my clients ALL the time… don’t overlook it!
Isn’t Twitter Just For Kids?
Twitter for businesses isn’t a place for talking about what you’ve eaten today. When you create conversations with your followers, you begin to establish yourself as someone to follow and someone to listen to… a “thought leader.”
Use it as a tool to boost your relationships with your customers and potential customers. People that know, like and trust you are much more likely to buy your products, become repeat customers and spread the word about your products & services with their friends.

Nice tip. However, I don’t consider myself a Twitter person. Would there be a Facebook equivalent app? I could still apply the concept for engaging, being helpful and building authority …

After trial and error, and I mean, serious error, I’ve discovered the best Social Media Manager on the Internet: Hootsuite. I’m not promoting them as an affiliate or anything like that, but what I’d like to point out is the Hootsuite DATA that they hook you up with if you’re a paid member.
You can create reports for your Clients based on how many Tweets are getting clicked, who’s looking at your stuff and so much more. It’s awesome!
And just to back up what James is saying, I can tell you first-hand, that I’ve actually gotten Clients from Twitter and it does work. However, you must follow the advise of James and ENGAGE people.
One last thing that I find useful is BE HUMAN. Don’t always talk about your business, talk about what you had for dinner. But just remember, don’t overdo it. People don’t always want to hear what you had for dinner, but they don’t want to have a sales pitch thrown at them 24/7 either.
Internet Marketers have noticed a shift-change in the way consumers but products and one of the major differences between today and 5 years ago is CONVERSATION. A SALE is a CONVERSATION, not a presentation.
Good luck!

Great tips Zacchaeus!
Great tips on getting thing rolling with Twitter-I’ve had an account for a few months and don’t really know what to DO with it. This will help-thanks!
That’s very true, at the end of day what we are achieving is the relationship. I love you say “Twitter is not a tool for collecting followers, but creating conversations.” there is no meaning showing off a large number of followers, what’s the use when they are totally strangers and won’t pay an ear to what you say!
Thanks for this good post.
Awesome Twitter tips! I tell my clients these same exact things about twitter and I’ve said those same exact words “People they know, like, and trust” I always recommend my clients to have a personal twitter account vs a business/company account because people want to get to know you not so much your company. Once that relationship is built then it becomes easier to do actual business with you.
Interesting way to find the targeted follower for Twitter. I find it is really hard to find it in manual way.
great tips and advice. What I am really interested in is how to find out what tools to use to search twitter for phrases & words. You mentioned you could do this but if you can let me know what tolls I could use to do this.
Thank you,
I think twitter is the most awsome marketing and advertising tool there is around and when you add keyword targeted twitter followers to your account you are going to win.. Best advertising tool for your blog, website or services period..
